Welcome to Hoburne!

We will do our best to make every visit to the practice as pleasant as possible. You will normally receive a courtesy call the day before your visit to remind you of your appointment. On your first visit to the practice we will ask you to complete a new patient form and medical history declaration, it would be helpful if you could arrive 10 minutes early to allow time to complete this form.

Alternatively the form can be downloaded by clicking on the link below. Please complete the form and bring it with you for your first appointment.

Once in the surgery your dentist will examine the following areas:

• The facial muscles and jaw joints.
• The soft tissues inside your mouth to screen for oral cancer.
• The teeth, any fillings crowns, bridges, dentures or implants.
• The way in which your teeth meet and glide over each other.
• The health of the gums and check for the presence of any gum disease.

All of the above information will be recorded carefully in your electronic record during the appointment by the dental nurse. The dentists all routinely carry out checkups and treatment using magnification eyewear (loupes), this improves early detection of problems and the overall quality of our treatments.

The dentist will take any necessary x-rays. We normally take two x-rays to check the back teeth for cavities. Back teeth are large and x-rays are needed to assess them properly. These two small x-rays are included in the new patient fee. It may be necessary to take further x-rays to investigate any problems you are having. We have the latest digital x-ray technology and the result is visible immediately on our in-surgery computer screens. This technology has the added benefit of a 60% reduction in the x-ray dose required.

The dentist will then discuss any appropriate treatment options and costs with you. We will provide you with an estimate before you leave.

If complex treatment is required we may need a second appointment to take further dental records such as impressions for models of the teeth and photographs. Once these have been assessed we will then provide you with an estimate. We will always keep you informed of any costs.

We can then book any further appointment s required at a time that is convenient for you. We have monitors mounted on the ceiling above each dental chair for you to watch a DVD whilst you are having treatment.

New patient fee (including 2 small x-rays) £74
